Membership commitment
Membership in the Association for Human Mathematics is public, and open to all people in the mathematical research community at the graduate level and higher. Membership is free and enables participation in the activities of the Association.
Members make the following general commitments as a part of joining the Association for Human Mathematics, with the understanding that they will make their collaborators aware of these commitments.
1. Members commit to not working with commercial AI companies by providing technical labor, mathematical knowledge, consultation, or publicity.
2. Members commit to not publishing mathematical texts (including papers, reviews, referee reports, lecture notes, teaching materials, and books) generated by AI models. Members only publish their own writing, as opposed to outputs of AI tools. We affirm that mathematical writing should have human authorship.
Members also have the option of signing onto the following public commitment and joining our AI-free caucus. We stand by our colleagues who choose not to use AI tools in their mathematical practice. In doing so, we affirm the inherent value of human mathematics.
3. Members of the AI-free caucus do not use AI models in a research capacity. Members of this caucus engage in core mathematical activities, such as finding proofs, exploring examples, and posing research questions, without prompting Al tools.
